# Terms

> Create and steward business glossary terms with definitions, synonyms, status, and version history.

**Terms** is the business glossary under Know. Each term carries a canonical name, definition, optional synonyms, type, criticality flag, and lifecycle status. Stewards create terms, edit them on the detail page, request reviews, and inspect version history.

***

## Open Terms

1. Select **Know → Terms** in the sidebar.

The list page title is **Terms**. The description reads: *Business glossary terms with versioned definitions and reviews.*

Columns: **Term**, **Status**, **Definition**, **Synonyms**, **Updated**.

Use **Search…** to filter by name or definition. The header shows a term count (for example `12 terms`, or `3 / 12 terms` when a search is active).

***

## Create a term

1. On **Know → Terms**, click **New term**.
2. The form page title is **New term** (*Create a glossary term with definition, type, and synonyms.*).
3. Fill the fields, then click **Create**.

| Field | Notes |
| - | - |
| **Name** | Required |
| **Definition** | Plain-language meaning |
| **Additional info** | Optional supporting text |
| **Term type** | `Term` or `Dataset` |
| **Status** | `Draft`, `Active`, or `Deprecated` |
| **Synonyms** | Comma-separated aliases |
| **Critical term** | Switch when the term is business-critical |

Empty list copy: **No terms yet** — *Create a glossary term to define business concepts.*\
No search hits: **No matching terms** — *Try a different search.*

## Statuses

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Draft** | Work in progress — not the org standard yet |
| **Active** | Approved for use |
| **Deprecated** | Replaced or retired; kept for history |

***

## Edit, history, and reviews

Open a term from the list. From the term detail you can:

* Edit fields and save
* Open **History** for version snapshots
* Request or resolve a **Review** under the term’s reviews routes

Deleting a term is permanent. Prefer **Deprecated** when you need the name preserved in history.
