# Subject areas

> Organize Catalog assets into business domains such as Customer or Finance.

**Subject areas** group Catalog assets by business domain. They are distinct from technical schemas: a subject area is an org concept (for example Customer or Finance), not a database namespace.

***

## Open Subject areas

1. Select **Know → More → Subject areas**.

Page title: **Subject areas**. Description: *Organize catalog assets by business domain.*

Columns include **Subject area**, status, and **Updated**. Use **Search…** to filter. Empty list: **No subject areas yet** — *Create a subject area to group catalog assets by domain.*

***

## Create a subject area

1. Click **New subject area**.
2. Enter name and description as required by the form.
3. Click **Create**.

Assign assets to subject areas from the subject-area detail or Catalog workflows the product exposes for that area.
